Finals are over. Let's jam. TONIGHT, that is.

The brutality is over. Now to begin a new chapter of insanity. We're playing tonight with KIDS, SLEDDING WITH TIGERS (KIDS/SLT SPLIT RELEASE) and STONES IN FLOOD. It's cool that we're also celebrating the release of The Mortimer Greene EP on cassette and cd. You're all invited to hang out. The show starts early, so exercise punctuality and be there fashionably on-time. We're playing some other shows soon. I'll post those up later. Thanks, beasts.

(Sherman Drive, 3:37 PM)

This is kinda cool: we finished tracking for our upcoming 4-song EP. We met up with Tommy G. at Electric Orange Studio off the Market Street exit off the 805 for a few days last week. Stay tuned, we'll have the tracks up really soon. In the meantime, here are a few pictures to help you at least imagine what they might have sounded like.

The Mortimer Greene EP is now tangible ( on CD [for now]).

It's been a while since we got these in, but we now have some copies of The Mortimer Greene EP. They came in one night we got back from playing LA, and have been sitting in their box all comfortable-like.

Dsc_0173

This CD version of the EP comes with lyrics, artwork by the one and only Peter Morales, pictures, credits/information people don't really care about, and "Soledad," an instrumental track exclusive to the CD and tape releases. Mike from Lay Me Low Records said the tape should be coming in by the end of the month! Stay tuned for that, young ones.

For a CD, send $5.00 cash ($3.00 + $2.00 shipping and handling) to:

RAKENROL

The show in Los Angeles was pretty damn great. The traffic was slow and steady just as we expected, and we got to the Tribal Cafe in time to see the first band, Fritz Sender after three hours in stop-and go-traffic AND visiting Raineir's grandma at the old people's home in Long Beach ("Schlong Beach," according to Aaron).

We made some good friends and heard some good music from Fritz Sender, Nevermeant, and Third World Labor Force. Jeff Bradley recorded a few songs from our set--what a top notch guy! You can listen to those tracks right here, or on the player below. Better yet, if you download them, you can get a photo set of the whole trip. RAKENROL

MERRY KiDS-MAS! We're going on tour. (Shitty puns included.)

It's pretty awesome. Our good friends MattBear, Nature, Corey, Blake, and Ben from the band KIDS (<---lol, pretty crazy, huh?) are taking us with them on tour December 16-23: one fine week up the California coast. Checkiiit:

Dec. 16th - San Diego
Dec. 17th - LA/OC/Pomona
Dec. 18th - LA/OC/Pomona
Dec. 19th - Santa Barbara
Dec. 20th - Santa Cruz
Dec. 21st - San Jose
Dec. 22nd -Bay Area
Dec. 23rd - Bay Area

...this should be a rough outline of the land that we will soon traverse. Packing it in an RV while Aaron and Manuel complain about how they don't have enough clean socks.

KIDS has a great sound. It's like 50s surf pop with a bit of jazz and 90s-modern shoegaze-y influence. Excellent musicians that definitely have fun with what they do. They have a tape out called "Summer Frights" which you can listen to right here.

Purchase/Download "Summer Frights"

Aaaand, we should have our EP out by then too. Give it a listen and download it for free here! More updates soon, thanks.

Thursday, September 1: Kickstart the semester off on the right foot.

The SDSU semester starts tomorrow. Raineir begins his journey to post-college purgatory as a 5th year Super-Senior. What better way to start off the banishment to academic oblivion than a damn good punk rock show in North Park?

Checkit, yo: the KiDS are playing a(n) (awesome) Pre-Awesome Fest Party happening both at Bar 11 and the Soda Bar on El Cajon Boulevard. They're on at 11:35 at Bar 11, but the whole show starts at 7:30pm at the Soda Bar, and will alternate bands playing between Soda Bar and Bar 11 until 2am. There will be some sick bands playing this whole thing, so be sure to set aside your night for this. Read the flyer for more information. Until then, as Ryan Haynes says, stay weird.

Did you get the memo(s)? We have demo(s).

After three weeks of finding which two days to meet, and scrounging around for the art supplies, we have some cool demos. Using Aaron's lunch money and Manuel's dad's ten-disc cd burner-tower we made 60+ demos to share with anyone having ears to listen.

Nerds Rejoice! There are three different editions, each containing different artwork, (numbered!) inserts, and songs, some of which will be on the upcoming 8-song Mortimer Greene EP cassette tape/cd which will be put out by Mike O. at Lay Me Low Records. Soooo grab it while it's hot. Once they're gone, that's it.  Pick one up at our next show, locals. We suggest you give us however much you think they're worth. You can see when our upcoming shows are here.

If you'd like us to send one, two, or a few to you, send us a letter telling us how much you love our shit, along with $2 (per demo!) to:

Raineir plays bass in a hipster band. Seee?

If you're into cryptic lyrics, tons of reverb, and nice clothes from thrift stores, check out Raineir's other band LEGS, where he plays bass and sings in falsetto tones like mickey mouse. Ian from Stopping Power plays drums this time around, and his girlfriend Edna completes the lineup on guitars, vocals, and complaints. Keep your ears clean for any shows with both the KiDS and their LEGS

Videos up from the Terra Nova show

Thanks to all the friends that came out to see us last week at the Terra Nova center. Alas, we did not win. Apparently to win a battle of the bands, one must not battle, but rather dress sharply and pose provocatively with scantily dressed women in or around a car behind a blurred background, indicating our tendencies to live glamorous lives in the present moment. Much like this:

30724_436263664417_382999859417_5679358_6313906_n-1

We had some good fun anyway. A pint of Yellowtail IPA does the soul some good before a set. Thanks to Manuel's dad, we have some awesome footage from the show. Check out how awesome we look from behind our friends watching us. Also check out how awesome Manuel shreds at bass. Dad is proud.

Matt runs a blog called 'Uncle Critic' (possibly named after the ALL song bearing the same name) chock full of punk rock goodness: book, music, and movie reviews, announcements, interviews, and even free downloads of bands that he likes. We happen to be one of them.

Click the link to see what he had to say about us (located in the "K" section of the alphabetical listing, of course). Then click the link leading to our bandcamp page, where you can download The Mortimer Greene EP for free, if you haven't already.

Ponk Rogga Shindig 4/29/11

Ian's parents were supposedly venturing to Mexico for vacation, so as always, we jumped at the opportunity to set up a show in his foul-smelling garage. We promoted it using Facebook and the ultimate powers of the Internet. Lo and behold, a considerable amount of people claimed that they were to come and join the festivity. However, there was a bit of a mixup where Ian thought his parents were not going to follow through with their plans. We moved it to Mason's grimy lair instead (aka the masonic lodge), Which had the capacity to fit more people.

Flyers for the show-Ian's House, and Mason's house (Art by Pedro Morales)

The Bandz:

  • Stud Muffin opened it up with some surfy sounding punk goodness and awkward silence.
  • Manuel's other band, Otacon (RIP lol) belted out the stylish jamz while Peter crooned smooth notes to lyrics about Japanese girls.
  • Backstab(ber) was up next and played a set shorter than the time it takes to tie my shoes. Francis argued with everyone. People laughed.
  • We were up next (watch our set below!).
  • After us was Cold Stare, who summoned the blonde-haired, blue-eyed mosh with their songs about loving amurika. oi!
  • Sleep Walk broke out the cigars and beerz in true rich boy fashion. Alberto took off his shirt to expose his belly. Great band.
  • Our other band Stopping Power headlined it after not playing for 11 months (The last time we played before that was in Japan. lol) Fun set, intense!

All the bands were awesome, and there was a positive energy all around. A good time with good friends. For those that would like to check it out, here are some videos and pictures of the ponker shindig.

Our set. We are the perfect soundtrack for sitting down and texting.
